I'm living in Puerto Vallarta temporarily and am starting to have some serious issues with my hair because of the humidity. I have very thick, very wavy dark hair- think Penelope Cruz and Eva Mendez hair... only now getting frizzy but flat at the roots because of the humidity.

i had the same problem when i moved to miami a few years ago. i tried everything to calm the frizz. the only thing that seemed to work was coyote urine which you can buy at home improvement stores. it's typically used to repel rabbits in yards but if you mix it with pureed banana (for volume and a nice smell), egg whites and about a teaspoon of mayonnaise, it works great. leave it on your hair for about 30 minutes.
