i do straighten my hair but i dont know much about what techniques are best to use.

pomade, hair glue, hairspray. you need to mess it up and comb it in front to the side and style by using the products I just listed.

Well try using a hairspray that freezes your hair. To prep it, use lots of gel, mousse, wax... Try using VO5 Play! workable putty or Got 2 B glued. Both are very strong and they work miracles.

Make sure you wash everything out of your hair each night. Putting this much stuff on it will kill your hair. Use conditioner after shampooing.

Tease it (combing it the opposite way), gel it, blow it out, then hair spray it.

If your hair is soft in texture then it probably won't hold.
