Do you have any tips on basic hair curling?

I'm having a hard time on achieving the hair waves I really want- not too tight yet not that loose. Can you please help me??? I'm into temporary hair curling methods, though.

The trick is to choose the RIGHT size (radius, not length) of hair curlers. The SMALLER the radius, the TIGHTER the curl.

If you use large curlers, the curl will be gentle, if you use pencil-thin curlers, the curls will be very tight.

The reason for hair curling is the cross-section of the hair. Perfectly straight hair is ROUND, while very curly hair is like a flattened oval.

Get a perm and then work with that if your hair is straight. Less work curling it everyday with an iron.

Try scrunchin it and using Aveda curl products.

Did you try "curling shampoo" and "curling conditioner?" Also, when you dry your hair use a diffuser attachment for the hair dryer so the blowing action doesn't blow your hair straight.

If your hair is naturally wavy these products might help.

Why don't you just curl you hair with the straightners - Yes it sounds stupid but you can.. The hairdressers do it now a days.. just put your hair in the straightners as if you straighten your hair turn your straightners around till the bottom of your hair is at the top of the straightner and drag down like you would straighten your hair.. It works and it give nice soft hollywood curls. XxX

There are semi permanent perms out in the market now if you have straight hair and want to try the look for a month or so. Ask you stylist for this new way of perms. It will wash off in about 30 washes and your hair will be straight again in case you did not like it , with minimal damage on the hair shaft. Now if you have natural wavy try defining lotions or mousse scrunch it up . I love Paul Mitchell Sculpting Glaze that has medium hold (no crispy feelling) and awsome shine. Another line you can try is Curls Rock on TIGI Bed HEAD or Matrix Curl Life. put some hairspray all over your hair before you curl it so it can stiffen your hair and you'll get whatever kind of curls you want

I used to use those flexible sticks, I wash my hair and before it dries I roll them on my hair and leave them till my hair dries, they look cool and natural, very nice besides they won't damage ur hair.
